Libya generated about $15.2 billion from its oil and gas sector during the first eight months of 2026, according to data released by the Ministry of Oil and Gas.
The revenues, covering January 1 to August 31, 2026, included approximately $11.9 billion from crude oil exports and $2.4 billion from oil-related taxes and royalties. Another $900 million came from sales of natural gas, condensates and petroleum products.
The ministry said the publication of the figures forms part of efforts to improve transparency and disclosure of oil revenues while highlighting the energy sector’s contribution to Libya’s economy.
Libya remains heavily dependent on oil and gas for government revenue and foreign currency earnings. However, the sector requires further investment and technology to modernise infrastructure and increase production.
