Mauritania’s Foreign Ministry summoned on Monday Iran’s ambassador in protest over his actions and movements inconsistent with diplomatic norms and traditions.
The Mauritanian protest comes following the ambassador’s visit to a village in the Trarza region without informing the local authorities. Three individuals were detained for hosting the Iranian diplomat.
In a press release, the Mauritanian foreign ministry said the ambassador’s
actions violate the regulations governing diplomats’ conduct in host countries.
While Nouakchott expressed a desire to maintain normal diplomatic ties with Iran, it stressed the need for strict adherence to the rules & protocols related to diplomatic missions, the respect of its sovereignty and non-interference in its internal affairs.
