Sudan’s Sovereign Council head, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, concluded a one-day visit to Riyadh on Monday, 15 December 2025, holding talks with Saudi Crown Prince, Mohammed bin Salman to strengthen bilateral relations and advance a sustainable strategic partnership.
Ambassador Muawia Osman, Undersecretary at Sudan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said the discussions focused on establishing a Strategic Cooperation Council sponsored by the leadership of both countries. Al-Burhan thanked Saudi Arabia for its efforts toward peace and stability in Sudan. And praised the Crown Prince’s vision for regional cooperation and economic partnerships.
The visit also addressed ongoing efforts to achieve security and stability in Sudan. Al-Burhan expressed appreciation for US President Donald Trump’s engagement in peace initiatives and affirmed Sudan’s readiness to collaborate with the US and Saudi Arabia to end the war.
Al-Burhan arrived in Riyadh following an invitation from Saudi Foreign Minister Walid al-Khereiji, who had visited Port Sudan the previous Saturday. At Al-Yamamah Palace, the two leaders reviewed recent developments in Sudan and explored measures to secure peace.
The meeting represents the first high-level talks since the Saudi Crown Prince reportedly requested President Trump’s direct intervention last month. Saudi Arabia, alongside Egypt, the US, and the UAE, participates in the Quad Mechanism aimed at ending the conflict, though Sudan has repeatedly declined to engage with the UAE, opting for trilateral negotiations. The Quad’s September 12, 2024, roadmap proposed a three-month humanitarian truce as a step toward a permanent ceasefire and a transparent transitional process. Al-Burhan’s visit underscores Sudan’s commitment to these diplomatic efforts while fostering deeper strategic ties with Saudi Arabia.
