Sahara: Estonia supports Morocco’s autonomy plan offering “good basis” for reaching enduring solution

The Republic of Estonia has expressed strong support for the autonomy plan presented by Morocco in 2007 for a lasting settlement of the Sahara issue, saying the plan offers “a good, serious and credible basis” for reaching enduring peaceful solution to the Sahara regional conflict.

The announcement was made by Estonia’s Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna at a press conference held Tuesday in Tallinn following his talks with Moroccan peer Nasser Bourita, who is currently on a European tour.

The Estonian minister said his country looks forward to strengthening further partnership with Morocco in all areas of common interest and commended Morocco’s stability and reforms which turned Morocco into a vital and credible partner for the European Union and the region.

Estonia also lauded the efforts spearheaded by King Mohammed VI for peace, stability and economic development in Africa.
In this connection, it welcomed the importance of the initiatives launched, under the Sovereign’s impetus, in support of Africa, particularly the Royal Initiative to facilitate access of Sahel countries to the Atlantic Ocean, the Atlantic African States Process, and the Morocco-Nigeria Gas Pipeline project.

The two ministers pledged to encourage entrepreneurs in both countries to explore joint business opportunities, mainly in digital technologies and renewable energies.

The meeting in Tallinn between Bourita and Tsahkna illustrates the shared willingness of Morocco and Estonia to strengthen ties between the two countries. It also reflects their determination to advance political dialogue and economic partnership, as well as coordination on matters of common interest at the bilateral, regional, and international levels.
