Morocco advances healthcare digitalization with strategic partnerships at GITEX Africa

Morocco has taken significant steps toward transforming its healthcare system through two major digital initiatives announced during GITEX Africa 2025 in Marrakech, a premier showcase for technology innovation across the continent.

A key development was the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Ministry of Health and la Caisse de Dépôt et de Gestion (CDG), Morocco’s sovereign investment fund.

“We are making our technical expertise available to the Ministry to develop and implement digital systems, enhance service delivery, and support the overall governance of Morocco’s health information ecosystem,” said Khalid Safir, Director General of CDG, in a statement to Morocco World News.

The partnership outlines several strategic priorities, including the establishment of a digital innovation lab within the ministry, development of tailored digital healthcare solutions, and deployment of specialized human resources, all while maintaining stringent data security standards.

“It’s a partnership that allows us to do what we cannot do alone,” noted the Minister of Health. “We’re working with the methods and codes of the digital sector to build a smarter, more efficient healthcare system.”

In a parallel initiative, the ministry signed a second agreement with the Mohammed VI Foundation for Sciences and Health and GITEX Africa organizers to launch GITEX Future Health Morocco Africa, a specialized annual event focused on e-health and biotechnology. The inaugural edition is scheduled for April 2026 in Casablanca.

This platform aims to position Morocco as a regional hub for health innovation, scientific knowledge exchange, and investment in medical technology. The initiative reflects Morocco’s strategic vision to integrate digital solutions into healthcare infrastructure while attracting global stakeholders to its developing ecosystem.

Both agreements align with King Mohammed VI’s directives for structural reforms in Morocco’s health sector and represent a pivotal shift in how healthcare will be delivered, governed, and evolved across the country in coming years, potentially establishing Morocco as a leader in digital health transformation across Africa.
