Morocco’s air traffic hits 36.3 mln passengers in 2025

Morocco’s airports handled 36.3 million passengers in 2025, up from 32.7 million in 2024, driven by strong demand across major hubs and boosted by fan arrivals for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, aviation authorities said.

The rise comes amid a record year for tourism. Morocco welcomed 19.8 million visitors in 2025, a 14% increase from a year earlier, according to the Tourism Ministry.

Tourism revenues reached 124 billion dirhams ($13.5 billion) between January and November, also an all time high.

The aviation performance reflects momentum generated by the national “Aéroport 2030” strategy, which aims to anticipate traffic growth, expand infrastructure and strengthen Morocco’s air connectivity, the airports authority ONDA said.

Casablanca’s Mohammed V Airport surpassed 11 million passengers in December, reinforcing its role as a regional hub.

Marrakech Airport crossed the 10 million passenger milestone for the first time, while Rabat Salé recorded a 26% jump to exceed 2 million passengers.

The five largest airports accounted for nearly 90% of national traffic. Casablanca handled 32% of total passengers, Marrakech 28% and Agadir 10%, with Tanger and Rabat posting annual increases of 17% and 26% respectively.

The strong demand comes as Morocco moves to expand capacity nationwide. Earlier this month, the government approved construction of a major new terminal at Casablanca’s Mohammed V Airport as part of the Aéroport 2030 plan. The project will cover 600,000 m² and is designed to handle up to 20 million passengers, with future expansion potential to 30 million. Officials say the upgrade is essential as rising tourism continues to stretch existing infrastructure.
