Sahara: Ukraine Backs Morocco’s Autonomy Plan Offering “Serious” Basis for “Successful” Settlement

The Government of Kyiv has voiced strong support for Morocco’s autonomy plan offered for the Sahara under its sovereignty, describing the plan as a “serious and credible” basis for reaching a “successful” settlement to the Sahara regional conflict.
The supportive stand was expressed by Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba at a joint press briefing held Monday in Rabat with Moroccan peer Nasser Bourita.
“Both Ukraine and Morocco know the value of sovereignty and territorial integrity”, added Mr. Dmytro, affirming that his country backs the efforts engaged by UN Sahara envoy Staffan de Mistura for reaching a realistic, enduring and mutually acceptable political solution, in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions.
The Ukrainian foreign minister also said that the settlement of the Sahara issue is essential for regional peace, stability and security.
