Libya’s Sirte Steam Power Plant Moves Closer to Natural Gas Conversion

Sirte Oil Production and Manufacturing Company has successfully completed on July 3 operational trials of a gas metering station, marking the first stage of a project aimed at supplying the Sirte Steam Power Plant with natural gas instead of liquid fuels.

The Company said the next phase will involve filling the branch pipeline and pressure reduction station, paving the way for the delivery of natural gas to the plant’s production units.

Final operational tests are expected to be completed in the coming days, after which gas supplies will begin. The transition is expected to improve the plant’s efficiency, reduce dependence on liquid fuels and deliver economic and environmental benefits.

The project aligns with the National Oil Corporation’s strategy to support Libya’s electricity sector and maximize the use of natural gas resources.
