Local commodity prices in Mauritania increased significantly in June 2026, contributing to rising inflationary pressures, according to the National Agency for Statistics and Population and Economic Analysis.
The Agency’s monthly Consumer Price Index report showed that prices of locally produced goods rose by 1% in June 2026, pushing annual inflation for local products to 10.2% year-on-year, while the 12-month inflation rate stood at 4.8%. Imported product prices, however, recorded a slight decline of 0.1% during the month, with annual inflation linked to imports estimated at 7.7%.
Food prices were among the main drivers of inflation, with fish prices increasing by 64.1% over the past year and red meat prices rising by 27.6%. Fresh produce and energy-related costs also recorded annual increases of 10%.
The Agency said overall consumer prices in Mauritania rose by 9.2% year-on-year, with higher prices for locally produced goods, particularly food items, contributing significantly to the increase.
