Libya’s Ministry of Oil and Gas has launched a new national initiative aimed at integrating artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics into the country’s energy sector to address operational challenges and improve efficiency.
The program, known as “New Energy Tech”, was announced on June 14 and seeks to enhance decision-making processes across Libya’s oil and gas industry while promoting locally developed technological solutions.
According to the ministry, the initiative will bring together engineers, software developers, AI specialists, researchers, academics, university students, start-ups, robotics teams and energy sector professionals to develop innovative solutions for real-world industry problems.
The project is designed to connect operational challenges faced by energy companies with Libyan innovators, who will be tasked with creating and testing technological solutions. Successful projects will be evaluated and potentially deployed within oil and gas companies.
Participants will also have opportunities to establish technology start-ups, receive promotional support and compete for financial awards for outstanding innovations.
The ministry said the initiative is expected to improve operational efficiency, reduce costs and emissions, and support the emergence of new Libyan technology firms, contributing to the development of a knowledge-based and innovation-driven economy.
