Morocco launches post-flood reconstruction plan

Morocco has launched a reconstruction plan in flood hit areas worth 2.5 billion dirhams ($260 million), the government said.

The plan will be funded by the Moroccan fund for addressing natural disasters, the head of the government office said.

The funds include financial aid to help rebuild 1,121 houses, including 269 homes that have been totally damaged which will receive 140,000 dirhams, while 852 partially demolished homes will receive 80,000 dirhams.

The flash floods hit last month multiple regions in Morocco’s south east following torrential rains.

The relief plan also provides for restoring destroyed roads, telecoms and utilities.

It also provides for measures to help restore livestock and irrigation systems.
