Morocco & UK to Step up Security Cooperation to Counter Regional & International Threats

Director-General of Morocco’s national police & domestic intelligence agency Abdellatif Hammouchi received on Wednesday visiting British Vice Admiral Edward Ahlgren. They discussed the challenges of illegal immigration, transnational organized crime and cooperation to ensure safety & security of large-scale events and major foot-ball competitions.

Morocco will host Interpol’s 93rd General Assembly in Marrakech in 2025, the Africa Cup of Nations in 2025, and the 2030 FIFA World Cup, while UK and the Republic of Ireland will co-host UEFA EURO 2028.

Talks between Hammouchi and the Vice-Admiral also covered cooperation prospects in security science & technology and in forensic investigation of explosives.

Both parties expressed a strong commitment to strengthen further the security and strategic partnership between Morocco and the United Kingdom.

The British official praised the key role of Moroccan security services in regional and international security, highlighting their input to global efforts engaged to counter security threats.

On Tuesday, the senior UK Royal Navy officer held separate meetings with minister in charge of National Defense Administration, Abdeltif Loudyi, and Inspector General of the Royal Armed Forces and Commander of the Southern Zone, Lt. General Mohamed Berrid.

They discussed defense cooperation, the exchange of expertise, military training, exercises, intelligence, border surveillance, electronic warfare and cyber defense.
