Libya: Sharara oil field production rises to 85.000 bpd

Production in the Sharara oil field has increased to approximately 85,000 barrels per day (bpd) to support the Al-Zawiya oil refinery.
The National Oil Corporation (NOC) had previously declared force majeure on the Sharara oil field after its shutdown on August 7. The NOC informed foreign partners and customers that this force majeure would not affect oil production loading and unloading operations.

The NOC stated it will provide an update on the return to normal operations once the issues prompting the force majeure are resolved. Earlier, the NOC had announced a partial production reduction from Sharara due to force majeure conditions related to “protests by the Fezzan movement,” and called for support to stabilize and boost production.

Sources have revealed that Saddam, son of Khalifa Haftar, ordered the closure of the Sharara oil field, which is operated by the Spanish company Repsol. This decision followed his return to Libya from Rome, where Italian authorities had reportedly informed him of an arrest warrant issued against him by Spanish authorities. The warrant was related to his alleged involvement in smuggling a shipment of weapons, intercepted months earlier by Spanish police.
