Anti-doping: Tunisia Facing Tougher Sanctions for Non-Compliance with International Rules

Tunisia’s Kais Saied is facing serious consequences after violating the sanctions imposed on it by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) for failing to abide by the international rules for clean sport.
As a result of non-compliance with WADA Code, Tunisia’s flag will not be flown at regional, continental or world championships, as well as in other major sports including the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games.
At a Tunisian Open Masters championship, organized over the weekend by the national swimming federation at the Rades Olympic pool, the Tunisian flag was covered in accordance with the sanctions imposed by WADA.
But President Kais Saied was extremely irked by the implementation of the sanctions against his country. He went to a local swimming event, near Tunis, raising the flag and singing the national anthem, a move seen as an act of defiance.
He dissolved the board of the Tunisian Swimming Federation and dismissed the Federation’s chief and a sports official in Ben Arous governorate near Tunis.
Tunisia’s defending Olympic swimming champion Ahmed Hafnaoui has announced lately that he was suffering from an unspecified injury, preventing him from competing in Paris Olympic Games.
