African Diplomats in Rabat Reject Algeria’s FM Defamatory Statement against Morocco
The disgraceful statements uttered by Algeria’s Foreign Minister Abdelkader Messahel were received with outrage by Africa’s diplomatic corps in Rabat.
Ambassador Nimaga Ismaila, Dean of the African diplomatic corps in Morocco, condemned, on behalf of African ambassadors in Rabat, such defamatory statements that lack flair and manners.
Messahel claimed at a meeting with Algerian businessmen that the success of Moroccan banks and flag carrier in Africa are ascribed to money laundering.
In a statement to the Moroccan news agency, MAP, Ambassador Ismaila deplored such statements which ”do nothing but further poisoning the situation”.
He described the attack on Morocco as “insolent” adding that African leaders will soon meet in Addis Ababa to ask Messahel for explanations after the latter claimed that African heads of state told him that Moroccan banks are using cannabis money.
Ambassador Ismaila noted that such irresponsible statements come in the context of the first visit of the UN Secretary General’s personal envoy for the Sahara to the region.
The dean of African Ambassadors in Rabat underscored that Morocco’s African policy is on the right track, lauding the Kingdom’s insight and commitment to unite the continent.
He concluded by saying that African heads of states pin their hopes that Morocco’s return to the AU will help build Africa’s capacities on the long run.
