Libya’s High Council of State forms Committee to drive economic reforms

Libya’s High Council of State has formed a Committee to develop a comprehensive package of financial and economic reforms in coordination with the House of Representatives and the Central Bank of Libya.

The decision was taken on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, during a meeting of the Council’s Presidency Office chaired by Mohammed Takala.

The committee will also monitor public spending, expenditures and financial allocations to strengthen fiscal discipline and protect state resources. The Presidency Office further discussed the formation of a parliamentary committee to assess the challenges facing the General Electricity Company of Libya, including the causes of its financial deficits and operational problems.

The committee is expected to propose measures to improve the electricity company’s performance and help ensure a more stable power supply to citizens.
