King Mohammed VI Represented at Edgar Morin’s Tribute Ceremony in Paris

King Mohammed VI was represented by Morocco’s Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch at the national tribute ceremony held in Paris on Wednesday for French philosopher and writer Edgar Morin, who passed away on May 29.

The ceremony, chaired by French President Emmanuel Macron, took place at l’Hôtel National des Invalides, and was attended by the deceased’s widow, Moroccan sociologist Sabah Abouessalam, family members and close friends of the late Edgar Morin, as well as Morocco’s ambassador to Paris Samira Sitail.

Also present at the ceremony were French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu, members of the government, and prominent French political and intellectual figures.

During the ceremony, Akhannouch presented to Mrs. Morin and the deceased’s family members a message of condolences and sympathy sent to them by the Monarch.

In this message, the Monarch emphasizes that “Edgar Morin nurtured a deep attachment to Morocco, where he forged loyal friendships. He was fond of recalling Morocco’s historical roots, and praised a Civilization that had revived the ‘We’ in a world weakened by the temptations of insularity and the illusions of denying the Other.”

The King recalls that the late scholar generously shared his insights during gatherings held in Morocco and elsewhere within the most prestigious institutions, adding that his intellectual authority and warm personality left a lasting impression on entire generations of thinkers and students.

“All those who had the honor of knowing him hold him in special esteem and affection, and they will never forget him,” the King underscores.
The French philosopher and sociologist who passed away at the age of 104 leaves behind a vast intellectual and philosophical legacy.
