King Mohammed VI, Advocate of Palestinian Cause Within “Board of Peace”

President Donald Trump launched this Thursday the “Board of Peace” with a signing ceremony at the World Economic Forum in Davos, in the presence of representatives of several countries including Moroccan foreign minister Bourita who signed the Board’s Charter with Mr. Trump.

The Board of Peace is tasked with rebuilding Gaza and resolving global conflicts. Palestinian ambassador to Morocco Jamal Choubaki said Morocco has been chosen to serve in the Peace Council because of its sound credibility and leadership on the international scene in addition to its independent and moderate foreign policy, its steadfast commitment to international peace and respect for international law.

The presence of King Mohammed VI, Chairman of Al-Qods Committee, among the founding members of this international body, constitutes “a guarantee for the rights of the Palestinian people”, said the Palestinian diplomat.

Morocco has always supported a just political solution and insisted on the establishment of Palestinian state and lasting peace in the region, underlined Mr. Choubaki, noting that Palestinians feel “reassured by Morocco’s presence in the Board of Peace” as the Kingdom is a champion of Palestinian, Arab and Islamic causes, as well as international humanitarian causes.

The setting up of the “Board of Peace ” has been approved by the UN Security Council as part of Trump’s Gaza peace plan, a multilateral agreement to address Gaza war and broader Middle Eastern crisis.

According to press reports, nearly 35 countries have expressed their commitment to join the “Board of Peace“, including Morocco, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Qatar and Turkey, while some traditional allies of the United States are weighing whether to sit on the board, while others refused to join.

On Monday, Moroccan ministry of foreign Affairs said King Mohammed VI has accepted Donald Trump invitation to join as a Founding Member the Peace Board to contribute to peace efforts in the Middle East.

The Monarch has welcomed Trump’s commitment and vision for the promotion of peace and stability in areas affected or threatened by conflict.

Morocco has also welcomed the announcement of the launch of the second phase of President Trump’s global peace plan, as well as the official creation of the National Committee for the administration of Gaza as a temporary transitional body.

Rabat has reiterated on this occasion its constant commitment to a just, global and lasting peace in the Middle East and to the establishment of a Palestinian State on the basis of the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
