The Prime Minister of Mauritania, El Moctar Ould Djay, on Thursday chaired the regular meeting of the partnership dialogue between Mauritania and the European Union at the Prime Minister’s Office in Nouakchott.
The session reviewed key aspects of bilateral cooperation and a range of issues of mutual interest, underscoring the depth of ties between the two partners.
In his opening remarks, Ould Djay described the dialogue as a pivotal mechanism in advancing the strategic partnership anchored in mutual trust, structured consultation and a shared commitment to delivering tangible outcomes in support of stability and sustainable development.
He noted that the agenda covered the political landscape in Mauritania and Europe, peace and security matters, and the humanitarian implications of regional and international crises.
Discussions also addressed the national economic outlook and structural reforms, the EU’s Global Gateway programme, human development, and sectoral policies including migration, fisheries and defence.
The Prime Minister said these priorities are aligned with the programme of President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, whose implementation roadmap runs through 2029 and focuses on consolidating the rule of law, strengthening institutions, building a resilient economy, stimulating productive sectors and ensuring equitable access to basic services.
He reiterated that sound and transparent public financial management remains a national priority, welcoming EU support for performance-based budget reforms and its contribution to the national budget.
