Morocco’s auto market posts historic 33% growth in 2025

The Moroccan automobile market recorded a landmark year in 2025, posting a historic 33% surge in sales driven by renewed consumer demand, the rapid rise of hybrid and electric vehicles, and an unprecedented influx of Chinese carmakers.

Total sales reached 235,372 units by the end of December, compared with 176,401 in 2024, according to data from the Association des importateurs de véhicules au Maroc (AIVAM).

A total of 51 brands were active in 2025, up from 36 two years earlier. Seventeen of these are Chinese, now accounting for roughly one-third of market share.

Eleven new entrants arrived over the year, mostly Chinese manufacturers offering hybrid and electric vehicles.

AIVAM president Abdelouahab Ennaciri said several additional Chinese brands are expected to enter the Moroccan market in 2026, capitalizing on fast-growing consumer interest in sustainable mobility solutions.

Demand rose across all market segments. Sales increased for both passenger vehicles and light commercial units, backed by rising household income, stronger financing capacity and interest in electrified models.

Rental companies in particular saw a 34% increase in registrations, while private buyers continued to dominate sales with 42% of total purchases, followed by rental fleets at 34% and corporate buyers at 23%.

European brands retained a commanding lead, capturing 75% of total sales, ahead of South Korea with 10%, Japan with 5% and China with 7.7%.

Chinese brands made their strongest gains in the fourth quarter, reaching 9.4% of sales, a trend expected to strengthen this year, with forecasts placing their 2026 share between 10% and 15%.

In the electrified segment, China’s BYD emerged as the leading brand, followed by popular models such as the Peugeot 208, Hyundai Tucson and Toyota’s Yaris and Corolla.
