The government of Burkina-Faso has reaffirmed its unwavering support for Morocco’s territorial integrity and commended UN Security Council resolution 2797 endorsing Moroccan autonomy plan in the Sahara under the Kingdom’s sovereignty
This supportive stand comes in a joint statement issued Wednesday following the 5th Session of the Morocco-Burkina Faso Joint Cooperation Commission held in Ouagadougou under co-chairmanship of foreign ministers of the two countries, Karamoko Jean Marie Traoré and Nasser Bourita.
In the joint statement, Mr. Traoré hailed the growing international support for Moroccan autonomy plan recognized by the UN Security Council as the only serious, credible, and lasting basis for achieving a political solution to the Sahara issue within the framework of Moroccan sovereignty.
For his part, Bourita thanked Burkina Faso for its unconditional support for Morocco’s territorial integrity within regional and international fora. He also praised the opening by Burkina Faso of a Consulate in Moroccan Saharan city of Dakhla in 2020.
Bourita also reaffirmed Morocco’s support to the tireless efforts made by this African country in the fight against terrorism and violent extremism, affirming that the Kingdom stands as a reliable partner committed to promoting and backing Ouagadougou initiatives seeking stability and development.
The two officials voiced commitment to strengthen further economic cooperation between the two countries, stressing the need to diversify partnership especially in security, defense, transport, training, agriculture, food security, water, and health.
The FM of Burkina Faso has on this occasion paid tribute to the leadership and strong commitment of King Mohammed VI in favor of peace, stability, and development in Africa.
