Italy’s exports to Libya surge by 34% in 2024

The Italian Embassy in Libya announced a significant boost in bilateral trade, with Italian exports to Libya reaching €2.27 billion in 2024, marking a remarkable 34.2% increase from the previous year.

This surge highlights Italy’s continued dominance in the Libyan market, with various sectors contributing to the growth, including medical supplies (up 44.7%), automotive products (up 43.4%), and oil and gas exports (up 40.9%). The chemical-pharmaceutical industry also saw a rise of 32.2%, while machinery, agrifood, and furniture sectors recorded increases of 19.3%, 19%, and 9.3%, respectively.

This impressive performance strengthens Italy’s position as Libya’s primary trading partner and largest investor. The embassy’s announcement underscores the strength of economic ties between the two nations, particularly in sectors that are pivotal to Libya’s rebuilding efforts and economic recovery. The surge in exports reflects not only Italy’s market leadership but also its growing influence in Libya’s industrial and infrastructural development.

The continued expansion of Italian exports is expected to contribute significantly to Libya’s economic revitalisation, particularly as Italy’s diversified sectors provide key goods and services that support the North African nation’s recovery. The data also reinforces the long-standing partnership between Italy and Libya, paving the way for further growth in trade and investment opportunities in the years to come.
