Libya engages in talks to settle financial contributions to Arab League
Libya’s acting head of the embassy in Cairo and permanent representative to the Arab League, Abdul-Mutalib Thabit, held on February 19 a significant meeting with the Arab League’s Assistant Secretary-General, Mohamed Al-Ajiri, to address Libya’s financial obligations to the League.
Discussion focused on resolving Libya’s outstanding contributions to the Arab League’s general budget and ensuring that the country can continue to fulfil its duties within the organization.
Libya, which ranks as the third-largest contributor to the Arab League’s budget, has faced challenges in maintaining consistent payments. During the meeting, both sides stressed the importance of finding a fair and workable solution to the financial arrears, which would facilitate Libya’s ongoing participation in regional affairs. Both officials agreed on the need to streamline the process and eliminate any obstacles that could prevent the timely settlement of these dues.
The talks underscored the broader significance of Libya’s active engagement in the Arab League, with an emphasis on strengthening joint Arab action. By ensuring the regularity of Libya’s financial contributions, both parties hope to bolster Libya’s role in the League and support collaborative efforts across the region.
