Libya: Government approves 2025-2035 national strategy for food security
Libyan Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibah has approved the National Food Security Strategy 2025-2035, developed by the National Council for Economic and Social Development. The approval was announced during a ceremony held in Tripoli on Sunday, December 8.
Dbeibah emphasized that food security is a national priority and a key pillar for economic and social stability, and highlighted the strategy’s role in addressing Libya’s significant challenges. He affirmed the Government of National Unity’s commitment to providing resources and support to implement the plan, which aims to boost local production, achieve food self-sufficiency, and establish a sustainable food system.
He also called for collaboration between government and private sectors to turn the strategy into a reality.
The strategy, which was finalized last June during a meeting at the National Council for Economic and Social Development in Tripoli, includes 174 projects and 65 programs organized around four main areas: ensuring food supply, improving access, maximizing benefits, and ensuring stability.
