Saudi Arabia wins 2022 Arab Cup U-20 after defeating Egypt on penalties

Saudi Arabia won Sunday the 2022 Arab Cup U-20 after defeating Egypt 5-3 on penalties in the final at Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz Stadium in Abha.

The Saudi youth took the lead on the stroke of the half time by Abdulaziz Al-Aliwa scored in the 45th minute.

The Egyptian side leveled up only four minutes into the second half through Salah Basha.

The two headed to the extra time but none managed to score until the end of the 30 minutes but the Gulf country converted more penalties than the Egyptian youth.

The win is the host’s straight second victory of the tournament that is in the fifth edition. Saudi Arabia reached the final and overcome Algeria 2-1, at 30 June Stadium in Cairo.

The winners topped Group A ahead of Mauritania and the UAE. They defeated Yemen 3-1 on penalties after a 0-0 draw in the quarter-finals.

They trashed Palestine 5-0 in the semi-finals to head clash with Egypt which got rid of Algeria 3-1 in the other semi-final.

Saudi Arabia’s Abdullah Radif finished as the tournament’s top scorer with six goals.
