Rached Ghannouchi leaves court free in Namaa Touns case
Rached Ghannouchi, the leader of Islamist party Ennahdha, walked free Tuesday from a court to his residence after several hours of interrogation in connection with an investigation into terrorism financing and money laundry counts leveled against Namaa Touns, an organization he is believed involved in.
Ghannouchi was questioned by the country’s counter-terrorism prosecutor in the connection with the investigation.
Ahmed Nejib Chebbi, leader of the National Salvation Front, last week revealed after a meeting with the Speaker of the dissolved Tunisian parliament that he is expecting to be arrested on July 19.
Ghannouchi is among dozens of people targeted by the investigation which was launched following the arrest of former Prime Minister Hamadi Jebali late last month in connection with the case. Jebali was later on released as his health deteriorated following his hunger strike.
Chebbi also revealed that Ghannouchi is among several political figures targeted by the administration of President Kais Saied. Both Chebbi and Ghannouchi are opposed to Saied whom they accuse of hijacking democratic dividends gained following the 2011 revolution.
