Congressman Marc Veasey (D-Texas) has joined the U.S. lawmakers pushing for labelling the Algeria-backed Polisario armed militias as Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO) for their ties with the Iranian regime and its proxies seeking to destabilize North Africa.
The “Polisario Front Terrorist Designation Act” was introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives by Republican Joe Wilson last June. If “H.R.4119” is adopted , the Polisario and their supporters would face severe legal, financial and diplomatic sanctions.
To date, fourteen U.S. Representatives have signed in for the designation of Polisario as FTO. A similar bipartisan bill has been tabled in the Senate by Congressmen Ted Cruz (R-Texas), Tom Cotton (R-Ark.), and Rick Scott (R-Fla.).
Marc Veasey was appointed in the 118th Congress to serve on the House’s Energy and Commerce and Armed Services Committees. Prior to his committee appointment, Rep. Veasey served on the Small Business Committee, and the Committee on Science Space and Technology. He is currently a member of the Congressional Black Caucus and the New Democrat Coalition.
Rep. Veasey also co-launched the Blue-Collar Caucus with Congressman Brendan Boyle. First elected to the Texas State House in 2004, Congressman Veasey represented District 95. As a member of the Texas State House, Rep. Veasey served in a number of leadership positions including Democratic Whip and Chair of the Democratic Caucus.
The Congressman was born and raised in Fort Worth, Texas. He earned a BS from Texas Wesleyan University, where he majored in Mass Communication.
