More than 80 migrants are missing after a boat carrying around 120 people capsized in the Mediterranean Sea after departing from Tadjoura, libya, on Sunday, April 5, the UN migration agency reported on April 7, 2026.
According to the International Organization for Migration, the vessel overturned after taking on water amid harsh weather conditions. Rescue efforts led by a merchant vessel and a tugboat saved 32 who were later transferred by the Italian coast guard to Lampedusa.
Authorities confirmed that at least two bodies have been recovered, as concerns mount over the fate of the remaining passengers on the perilous migration route.
