Eight Dead, Fourteen Injured in Tragic Bus Overturn in Southern Egypt
At least eight people lost their lives and 14 others sustained injuries on Monday, September 29, when a passenger bus overturned on a desert road in Minya Province, southern Egypt, according to the Ministry of Health and Population.
The bus was en route from Minya to Cairo when the incident occurred. Authorities confirmed that the injured were swiftly taken to the Samalut Medical Center in Minya for urgent medical care. Among the deceased was the bus driver, while the cause of the accident remains under investigation.
Road accidents are frequent in Egypt, often attributed to weak traffic enforcement and inadequate road maintenance. In response, the government has intensified efforts in recent years to modernise infrastructure, constructing new roads and bridges to reduce congestion and improve travel safety. Despite these strides, Monday’s fatal crash highlights the persistent dangers on the nation’s highways and underscores the need for continued vigilance and reform.
