US new State Secretary mentions excellent Morocco ties at Senate confirmation

During his Senate confirmation hearing for Secretary of State, Marco Rubio emphasized the excellent ties with Morocco and the potential for the Abraham Accords.

Speaking on economic opportunities for US policy in West and North Africa, Rubio said “I look north to Morocco and other places where we have already seen substantial improvements,” he said.

Rubio also highlighted Morocco’s regional stability role and its contributions to the Abraham Accords.

With Rubio in the Department of State, the Abraham Accords are expected to be expanded to new Arab states.

Countries turning in the Iranian orbit, such as Algeria, are expected to be dealt heavy blows during Trump’s second term. Rubio vowed to counter Iranian influence and proxies in the region.

He has also been an advocate of sanctions against Algeria, Russia’s main arms client in Africa.
