Tunisian President expected in Libya Wednesday

Tunisian President Kais Saied is expected in Libya on wednesday, becoming thus the first foreign leader to visit the war-torn country since the establishment of a new central administration.

The visit aims at backing the democratic process in Libya and at further enhancing relations between the two countries, the presidential office said.

The visit comes after the Libyan Government of National Unity, GNU, of Prime Minister Abdul-Hamid Dbeibah was sworn-in before the House of Representatives, HoR, in Tobruk on Monday.

Dbeibah and Head of the Libyan Presidential Council Mohammed Menfi were elected early February during the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum (LPDF) II in Geneva. Both Libyan figures will lead Libya’s interim central administration till December 24 elections.

Mohammed Menfi said after a phone talk with Tunisian Prime Minister Hichem Mechichi Sunday that Libya wants to increase cooperation and trade with its western neighbor, Tunisia, according to the Libya Observer.

A Libyan-Tunisian Economic Forum, held in Sfax on March 11 stressed the need to revitalize economic relations between the two countries, especially with regard to industrial investments, fishing, partnership in the agricultural sector as well as in the sector of public works and roads, and other commercial activities.
