Morocco gets first shipment of Covid-19 vaccine (Official)

Morocco has received Friday the first shipment of the British Astrazeneca vaccine, manufactured in India, the Ministry of Health announced in a statement.

 

A RAM airplane flew to Mumbai Thursday and returned to Morocco Friday with onboard two million doses of the coronavirus vaccine, ending weeks of waiting and uncertainties.

 

The Indian embassy also announced that Morocco received two million doses of the Covishield vaccine, developed by AstraZeneca and Oxford University.

The AstraZeneca and Oxford University vaccine is manufactured by the Serum Institute of India, the world’s biggest producer of vaccines, which has received orders from countries from across the world.

 

Morocco has also ordered vaccine doses from Chinese SinoPharm. According to the Health Ministry, the first shipment from China is expected on Wednesday, January 27.

The ministry said the vaccination campaign is set to start next week.

 

Morocco aims to vaccinate 25 million people starting with front-liners, including health workers, security forces, teachers and people in vulnerable health conditions.

 

 

Early December, King Mohammed VI had given his high instructions to the Government to adopt free vaccine against the COVID-19 for the benefit of all Moroccans.

 

So far Morocco prepared 3000 vaccine locations and mobilized 25,531 health workers for the campaign which he said once started will run for 12 weeks.
