New Algerian Ambassador to Morocco Hands Copy of Credentials to FM
The newly appointed ambassador of Algeria to Morocco Abdelhamid Abdaoui has presented a copy of his credentials to Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita in Rabat on Wednesday, the foreign department said in a statement.
Abdelhamid Abdaoui, appointed end of last September extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador to Rabat, is replacing Ahmed Benyamina who was Chief of the Algerian mission in Morocco for nine years. Benyamina was recalled earlier this year in a diplomatic shake-up.
Before Abdaoui, the Algerian interim president had appointed Abdelaziz Benali Cherif for the position. But Morocco has reportedly rejected Cherif as ambassador, well-known for his anti-Morocco stands.
The new ambassador is a career diplomat. He held several senior positions at the foreign affairs ministry and also served as Algeria’s ambassador to Kuwait.
