Libya: Six Moroccans Injured in Airstrike on Migrant Center

Six Moroccans were injured, including two seriously, in the airstrike that has hit lately a migrant detention center near the Libyan capital.
“No death has been recorded among Moroccans” so far, said a statement issued Thursday by Morocco’s Consulate General in Tunis, noting that that injured Moroccans were transported to a hospital to receive the necessary care.
There were 18 Moroccan nationals at the migrant center when it was hit on Wednesday by the airstrike that has left at least 40 people dead and another 200 injured.
Libya’s Government of National Accord (GNA), led by Prime Minister Fayez al-Sarraj, condemned the “horrific crime”, blaming renegade Gen. Khalifa Haftar, leader of the Libyan National Army (LNA), whose forces have been waging an assault on the capital for the last two months.
The LNA has denied responsibility for the attack, instead accusing Tripoli-based “militias” — who are largely allied to the GNA — of orchestrating a “conspiracy” to “tarnish” their reputation.
According to press reports, the LNA was fighting government forces in the area where the strike happened. On Monday, it had announced that it would start heavy air strikes on targets in Tripoli after “traditional means” of war had been exhausted.
However, a spokesman for the UN refugee agency could not confirm who was behind the attack on the centre. No authority has full control over Libya and the country is extremely unstable, torn between several political and military factions, the two most important of which are led by Prime Minister Sarraj and Gen Haftar.
