Libya’s political and economic developments were reviewed at a meeting held Sunday in Tripoli between GNU Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibah and US State Department Senior Policy Adviser for Libya Jeremy Berndt.
Discussions also covered efforts to create conditions for national elections, including the outcomes of the “4+4” mini-dialogue group on the legal framework for elections and the restructuring of the High National Elections Commission (HNEC). They also reviewed the role of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya in advancing the political process.
On the economy, Dbeibah and Berndt discussed the unified development spending agreement, with emphasis on transparency, fiscal discipline and equitable distribution of resources.
The two also reviewed developments in Libya’s oil sector and support for the National Oil Corporation to maintain stable production and improve management efficiency. Both sides agreed on the importance of continued coordination to strengthen stability and advance Libya’s electoral process.
