The Government of Mauritania has announced heightened surveillance of reported Ebola virus disease cases in several African countries, introducing a coordinated set of preventive measures aimed at reinforcing national health security and protecting citizens at all entry points.
In a joint statement issued by the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Interior, Health, and Equipment and Transport, authorities said border health controls have been strengthened across key crossing points to reduce the risk of cross-border transmission and to enhance national preparedness.
The Government further confirmed the establishment of a national emergency task force mandated to continuously monitor developments linked to the outbreak, assess risks in real time, and coordinate rapid response actions where necessary.
The task force will integrate representatives from the relevant ministries and work in close collaboration with Mauritanian diplomatic missions abroad to track the situation of nationals in affected countries and ensure accurate, timely information flow.
Authorities also urged Mauritanian citizens living in or travelling through affected regions to remain vigilant and strictly adhere to health guidance issued by competent authorities.
Officials stated that the mechanism will remain in permanent operation, reflecting what they described as a sustained commitment to safeguarding public health, reinforcing border resilience, and anticipating potential epidemiological shocks across the region.
