Recep Tayyip Erdogan has hosted Sudanese Prime Minister Kamil Idris in Ankara for high-level talks aimed at deepening bilateral cooperation in reconstruction, investment, and strategic partnership.
The Sudanese delegation included ministers responsible for Finance, Agriculture, Energy and Minerals, reflecting the broad scope of discussions between the two sides.
During the meeting on Wednesday, May 21, President Erdogan reaffirmed Turkey’s support for Sudan’s sovereignty and stability, while welcoming the reactivation of the Joint Economic Committee between both countries. He also pledged Turkish expertise in clean energy, infrastructure development, agriculture, and joint investment projects.
Prime Minister Idris described Turkey as a key strategic partner and called for stronger direct engagement between Turkish and Sudanese private sector actors to accelerate reconstruction and investment initiatives inside Sudan.
Senior Turkish officials, including Vice President Cevdet Yilmaz and Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, attended the discussions, which also covered cooperation in energy, mining, infrastructure, ports, transport, logistics, and agriculture.
Both sides explored major development initiatives, including agricultural schemes in Gezira, Rahad and Hawad, as well as projects in oil, electricity, renewable energy, and gum arabic production. They also discussed a large-scale housing programme targeting one million productive youth, alongside cooperation in digital transformation and e-government.
The two countries agreed to establish joint follow-up mechanisms, prepare an implementation roadmap for priority projects, and convene a Sudan–Turkey Business Forum in the near future. The Joint Economic Committee is expected to conclude its work with the signing of memoranda of understanding covering trade, investment, transport, agriculture, and reconstruction, marking a renewed push toward economic integration and post-conflict recovery in Sudan.
