Polisario members have expressed clear support for the Mollah regime during a condolence ceremony held lately at the Iranian embassy in Algiers following the death of Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, 86, during joint US-Israeli air strikes targeting his compound in Tehran.
The participation of Polisario in formal condolence ceremony in Iran’s Embassy in Algeria and acts of solidarity with Teheran confirm the nexus between the separatist group and Iran.
Viral videos posted on social media show a Polisario member telling the Iranian diplomat: “We stand with the Islamic Republic of Iran” during the current regional tensions. “Defending Iran means defending our own existence and the entire Islamic nation”, he added, saying
“We maintain coordination with the Islamic Republic and several allied factions”. He also warned that “if Iran falls, the entire Islamic world will be in danger”.
In his speech delivered in front of a group of attendees during condolence ceremony, the Polisario member cites a military and political coordination with other groups present in the region, especially in Iran and Iraq to counter “The Zionist entity”.
In 2024, Head of Polisario armed militias Brahim Ghali sent messages of condolence to Hamas, Lebanese Hezbollah, and Iran following the killing of Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh and military commander of Hezbollah Fuad Shuk.
These messages demonstrate the ties existing between the Algeria-backed separatist group and Iranian proxy terrorist organizations. They also raise serious concerns about the Polisario alliance with axis of evil which is expanding and threatening the stability and peace in Africa and Europe.
In 2018, Morocco cut-off diplomatic ties with Iran over its support for Hezbollah in arming and training Polisario separatists in connivance with Algerian
Tehran continues to use its proxies, militias and terror groups across the Middle East with outposts around the world to help foment instability, carry out attacks and expand Shiite influence which has reached North Africa and Tindouf camps, becoming a breeding ground for terrorists.
In Washington, both Chambers of the U.S. Congress, the Senate and House of Representatives, are currently considering bills designating the Polisario as Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO).
U.S Republican & Democrat Congressmen say the Iranian regime is trying to turn the Polisario Front into the Houthis of West Africa and use them to undermine the national security of the United States and its allies.
Once FTO designation is secured, the Polisario and its leaders will be cut off from access to the global financial system, international travel, and the resources they rely upon to conduct their terrorism. The move will also have serious economic and political impacts on Polisario sponsors, especially Algeria, South Africa and Cuba.
