Libya’s National Center for Disease Control (NCDC) has held talks on February 24 with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) – Libya Office to strengthen support for the country’s National Tuberculosis Control Programme amid rising infection rates.
The discussions, backed by the Global Fund, focused on the growing burden of tuberculosis (TB), particularly in areas with high concentrations of migrants and transit populations.
Officials noted that the surge in cases is placing additional strain on national health facilities and carries direct implications for Libya’s broader health security system.
Both sides underscored the need for more coordinated interventions targeting vulnerable groups, with emphasis on enhancing disease surveillance, bolstering epidemic response mechanisms and ensuring uninterrupted access to diagnostic and treatment services.
The meeting concluded with an agreement to develop a joint action plan anchored on clearly defined priorities and measurable performance indicators to guarantee effective implementation and monitoring.
The partnership will prioritise high migrant-density areas, improve the quality of healthcare delivery in line with shifting epidemiological trends, and strengthen technical and logistical support to ease pressure on public health facilities.
The collaboration is also expected to deepen institutional integration among relevant stakeholders, reinforcing Libya’s overall health response framework and improving public health outcomes nationwide.
