Morocco welcomes record 19.8 million tourists in 2025

Morocco welcomed a record 19.8 million visitors in 2025, a surge of more than 14% from the previous year, edging close to the symbolic 20 million milestone for the first time, tourism ministry data showed.

Tourism revenues hit 124 billion dirhams or 13.6 billion dollars by November, up 19% year-on-year, according to the ministry, confirming the contribution of tourism to the inflow of hard currency in Africa’s most diversified economy.

With the record arrivals, Morocco is poised to maintain its standing as Africa’s most visited country.

The ministry credited the gains to the 2023–2026 tourism roadmap, spurred by a royal vision, which targets improved air links, expanded accommodation, diversified offerings, and further investment.

“This momentum reflects a profound transformation toward sustainability and regional value creation,” Tourism Minister Fatim-Zahra Ammor said.

The boom coincides with Morocco hosting the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025, expected to draw 1.2 million international visitors and inject about $384 million into the hospitality industry.

The tournament, staged across six cities, has spurred infrastructure upgrades and generated hundreds of millions in media and sponsorship revenues, reinforcing Morocco’s global profile.

Already Africa’s most visited country, Morocco aims to attract 26 million tourists by 2030, leveraging major sporting events including AFCON and the 2030 FIFA World Cup to cement its position as a benchmark destination.
