Egypt’s State Information Service (SIS) has announced plans to introduce structured monthly briefings for foreign correspondents accredited in the country, beginning in January 2026, as part of a broader strategy to deepen engagement with international media. SIS Chairman Diaa Rashwan said the initiative aligns with standing directives from President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi to expand the operational scope and freedom of movement of foreign journalists in Egypt.
The objective, he noted, is to provide correspondents with direct access to verified, official information and first-hand exposure to Egypt’s political, economic and social dynamics.
Under the new framework, the SIS will convert its existing engagements—such as briefings, press conferences and participation in national events—into a regular monthly forum titled “Meet the Foreign Media.” Each session will feature a senior minister or specialist and will be conducted through open, public dialogue.
The inaugural briefing is scheduled for mid-January 2026 and will feature Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates, Dr Badr Abdelatty. The session will outline the core principles of Egypt’s foreign policy, its regional and international diplomatic posture, and provide correspondents with the opportunity to seek clarification on key issues.
Invitations will be extended through the Foreign Correspondents’ Press Centre in line with established accreditation and registration procedures. The SIS says the initiative is designed to project an accurate and balanced narrative of Egypt’s domestic and external engagements to the international community.
