Libya has announced that Britain has agreed to receive and analyze the black box from a jet carrying senior Libyan military officials that crashed in Türkiye last week.
According to a statement from the Transport Ministry of the western-based Government of National Unity, Transport Minister Mohammed Salem Al-Shahoubi met British Ambassador Martin Reynolds on Tuesday, 30 December, to align on the technical and procedural framework for transferring and examining the flight recorder.
The aircraft crashed on Dec. 23 while returning to Tripoli from an official visit to Ankara, killing Libya’s Chief of Staff Mohammed Ali Ahmed al-Haddad, four senior military officials and three crew members. Following the crash, Libya and Türkiye agreed to send the black box to a neutral country to safeguard the integrity and impartiality of the investigation.
The ministry said Britain’s acceptance followed Germany’s decision to decline the technical analysis. Libya also reaffirmed that it continues to cooperate closely with Turkish authorities as part of the joint inquiry into the cause of the accident.
