Trade union leaders at the Tunis Transport Company (Transtu) have agreed to hold a general workers’ rally, following an emergency meeting held on Sunday, December 14, under the supervision of the executive bureau of the General Transport Federation (UGTT).
The date and modalities of the rally are to be announced later. The unions said the planned mobilization is aimed at demonstrating labor unity, denouncing what they describe as a policy of exclusion of the social partner and alleged violations of trade-union rights, while reaffirming their commitment to the company’s sustainability and the protection of workers’ interests.
In a statement posted on its Facebook page, the General Transport Federation held Transtu’s senior management and the supervisory authority fully responsible for any further deterioration in the situation, accusing them of backtracking on signed agreements. At the same time, the federation reiterated its readiness to engage in “serious and responsible” dialogue.
The meeting also decided on an immediate boycott of the commissions tasked with assigning end-of-year performance scores, in protest against what unions called the company’s failure to honor its commitments. The boycott will remain in force until the implementation of Article 15, previously agreed upon with the federation.
The measure was due to take effect from October 2025 and carries direct financial implications for employees, particularly in relation to end-of-year performance bonuses.
