Morocco deploys surveillance cameras to boost security in Africa Cup of Nations host cities

Moroccan authorities installed advanced security systems across the six major cities of Rabat, Casablanca, Tangier, Fez, Agadir, and Marrakech which will host the Africa Cup of Nations next month.

The initiative includes high-resolution cameras equipped with facial recognition technology, aimed at strengthening public safety and ensuring smooth mobility for residents and visitors during the continental tournament, local media reported.

The surveillance rollout focuses on key urban areas surrounding stadiums, transport hubs, and tourist routes. These smart cameras, capable of real-time identity verification, represent a significant step toward intelligent urban monitoring.

Officials say the systems will provide a high level of security during the event, which is expected to draw tens of thousands of fans from across Africa.

Morocco’s preparations extend beyond security arrangements. The government has invested heavily in infrastructure upgrades, stadium renovations, and transport improvements to meet CAF standards.

Security forces are undergoing specialized training, and additional resources such as drones and body cameras have been deployed to enhance crowd management.

The tournament, scheduled from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026, will be spread across nine stadiums in the six host cities. Organizers promise a world-class experience, including cutting-edge broadcast technology like Spidercam for aerial shots, marking a first for the competition.
