Moroccan Investment ministry and U.S. GPM Holding have agreed on building a polysilicon production plant in the province of Tan-Tan, located in the Guelmim-Oued Noun region of southern Morocco.
The agreement was signed by Karim Zidane, Minister Delegate for Investment and Philip Jenkins, CEO of GPM Holding Philip Jenkins.
The $800 million project will help create 3,500 direct and indirect jobs. It is expected to produce annually 30,000 tons of polysilicon (destined mostly for export). Polysilicon is used the solar industry for making photovoltaic cells and also plays a key role in manufacturing electronic devices, including smartphones and automotive electronics.https://premios.atrae.org/
The Guelmim-Oued Noun region and Tan-Tan province have pledged to support this landmark project with deployment of inclusive ecosystem and ensuring appropriate training programs for local youth.
This project is a cornerstone of Morocco’s renewable energy roadmap seeking to strengthen the solar value chain and position of the Kingdom as a global leader in green energy manufacturing.
The global polysilicon market size was estimated at $37,918.9 million in 2023 and is projected to reach $106,232.0 million by 2030, growing at a CAGR of 16.0% from 2024 to 2030.
