Egypt: Launch of New SCZone Stations
President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi, on Sunday, November 16, has inaugurated a series of new maritime stations in the Suez Canal Economic Zone at East Port Said, reiterating Egypt’s drive to fast-track national development in transport and logistics.
He highlighted the country’s sweeping progress across ports, railways, roads and energy, urging sustained momentum to secure Egypt’s competitive standing.
Reflecting on the SCZone’s early challenges in 2015, the president commended Egyptians for their resilience and called for continued collective effort to deliver projects that serve both current and future generations. Senior officials, including Deputy Prime Minister Kamel Al-Wazir, outlined the state’s comprehensive port development strategy, noting the establishment or modernisation of 19 ports and positioning Egypt as a regional hub for logistics and transit trade.
International partners echoed this sense of strategic uplift and some announced plans to expand investments.
SCZone Chairman Waleid Gamaleldien described 2025 as an exceptional year, highlighting East Port Said’s ranking as Africa’s top container port and the Authority’s success in attracting $11.6 billion in investments since 2016, including green hydrogen ventures aligned with Egypt’s low-carbon strategy. Industry leaders from SCAT and Sky Ports Egypt underscored the SCZone’s growing role as a cornerstone of Egypt’s economic future.
