Palestine: El-Sisi and Macron Intensify Diplomatic Push for Gaza Ceasefire

Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi and French President Emmanuel Macron held a phone call on Tuesday, October 7, to coordinate joint diplomatic efforts aimed at achieving an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and advancing ongoing negotiations hosted by Cairo. According to the Egyptian Presidency, both leaders stressed the urgency of halting the war, ensuring the unimpeded flow of humanitarian aid, facilitating the exchange of captives and prisoners, and launching Gaza’s reconstruction while safeguarding the Palestinian people’s right to remain on their land.

El-Sisi praised France’s formal recognition of the State of Palestine on September 22 during the Two-State Solution Conference in New York—a move he described as a “significant step” that could inspire broader international support for a two-state solution based on the 4 June 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as the capital.

The two presidents also reviewed developments in the Egypt–France partnership and discussed ways to strengthen the agreements reached during Macron’s April 2025 visit to Cairo. Macron congratulated El-Sisi on Khaled El-Enany’s election as UNESCO Director-General, reaffirming the deepening cooperation between the two nations as they continue to engage closely on efforts to end the Gaza conflict and address the worsening humanitarian situation.
