Switzerland launches strategic economic partnership program with Morocco
Switzerland has unveiled its 2025-2028 Economic Cooperation Program with Morocco, reinforcing bilateral ties through targeted initiatives in sustainable development, innovation, and market access. The program launch in Rabat this week included the signing of a sustainable tourism project for the Béni Mellal-Khénifra region, demonstrating immediate implementation of strategic objectives.
Swiss State Secretary for Economic Affairs representative Philipp Orga joined Morocco’s Tourism Minister Fatim-Zahra Ammor and Moroccan Tourism Engineering Company Director Imad Barrakad in formalizing the regional development initiative. The agreement exemplifies the program’s focus on creating mutually beneficial opportunities while supporting Morocco’s economic diversification goals.
Françoise Salamé Guex, Head of Economic Cooperation and Development at the Swiss Embassy in Morocco, detailed four strategic pillars guiding the partnership. The first establishes innovation-friendly business environments through strengthened regulatory frameworks and support for Regional Investment Centers, crucial for attracting foreign direct investment and fostering entrepreneurship.
Skills development forms the second component, addressing labor market demands through targeted training programs in textile manufacturing and tourism sectors. This human capital investment aligns with Morocco’s industrial strategy while meeting Swiss companies’ requirements for qualified local partners and suppliers.
Sustainable value chain integration represents the third pillar, promoting digitalization, innovation adoption, and international market access for Moroccan enterprises. Swiss expertise in precision manufacturing and quality standards provides valuable knowledge transfer opportunities for local businesses seeking global competitiveness.
Financial access expansion completes the framework, with initiatives broadening funding options for small and medium enterprises, particularly those operating within strategic value chains. Swiss financial institutions’ participation introduces sophisticated financing instruments previously unavailable to many Moroccan businesses.
The program reflects Switzerland’s recognition of Morocco’s strategic importance as a gateway to African markets while offering Swiss companies stable investment platforms in emerging sectors. Both nations emphasize sustainable development principles throughout the cooperation framework.
