Morocco’s tourism sector is experiencing unprecedented growth and is expected to surpass the milestone of 20 million tourist arrivals this year, tourism minister Fatima Zahra Ammor said.
With 7.2 million visitors recorded during the first five months of 2025, a 22% increase compared to the same period last year, the performance of the tourism sector shows the country firmly on track to meet its target of 26 million tourists by 2030, the minister told Medias24.
The government is implementing a strategic roadmap for transforming Morocco into one of the world’s top 15 tourist destinations, she recalled.
The strategy relies, among others, on air connectivity as a key lever. Between 2019 and 2026, Morocco is set to double its airline seat capacity, she said, noting that in 2024 alone, the country secured over 11 million seats, 25% more than in 2023, and launched 120 new international routes, including to North America and Eastern Europe.
The government has also deepened partnerships with major carriers. Ryanair, for example, has opened 47 new international routes, 11 domestic ones, and a new base in Tangier.
A memorandum of understanding was signed to connect Dakhla to international destinations.
In parallel, Morocco is reforming its hospitality sector. The recent enactment of Law 80-14 introduces new standards for the management of tourist establishments, aimed at improving service quality and competitiveness across the hotel industry.
