Khalid Shakshak, Head of Libya’s Audit Bureau, held high-level talks with a delegation from the United Nations Office of Internal Oversight Services (OIOS) to assess the performance of UN missions and programs in Libya.
The meeting underscored the need for improved coordination between the Audit Bureau and the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), especially in project implementation, to avoid duplication of expenditures and enhance the overall public benefit, a statement posted Thursday, June 26 explained.
The dialogue centered on evaluating the efficiency, effectiveness, and impact of peacebuilding and institutional development initiatives, with both parties aiming to optimize outcomes and ensure judicious use of resources.
This engagement forms part of the Bureau’s broader consultations with domestic and international partners to reinforce its oversight mandate. A prior meeting on 17 June between Shakshak and UNSMIL’s strategic review team, led by Daniela Kroslak, highlighted Libya’s growing focus on transparency, fiscal accountability, and anti-corruption.
Shakshak reiterated the importance of sustained UN support in addressing Libya’s economic challenges and safeguarding public finances, aligning with national efforts to build robust, transparent institutions during a pivotal period of post-conflict recovery.
